The first question people ask us when they hear about our upcoming adventure is ‘why’?
- Three of us in an old small car
- Travelling 10,000 km across some of the most difficult terrain in the world
- No support or back up
- No mechanical knowledge between us
- Boiling hot temperatures
Sounds awful doesn’t it? To most people, ‘yes’ however we have always had a thirst for adventure, new challenges, trying things that are out of our comfort zone and a love of meeting new people and new cultures.
We can of course try and achieve all of this on an organised adventure holiday, however, we also have one very important thing in common and that is the loss of a loved one and by taking on this challenge, we can not only have the adventure we are seeking for , but above all, we can raise money for the two charities very dear to our hearts – British Liver Trust and Dementia UK, at the same time.
Our team is made up of myself (Mike), my son Harvey and his best friend Alex. Alex has been a friend of the family for that long now, I forget that his actually not one of us!
We all have many things in common – the love of travel, sport (Football, Golf and Tennis in particular) and more recently, ‘investing’ which so far is on a par with our car mechanics skills!
We have no idea exactly what will lie ahead but what we do know is that we will give it our absolute best shot in order to raise as much money and to take in everything we will experience along the way.
Our very supportive family and the non mechanics girlfriends will be at the starting line to see us off and to give us one final pep talk before we embark on this 10,000km, 18 country journey – we hope that the combination of youth and experience and the close bond the three of us have, will set us in good stead for this once in a life time challenge.
Here is a little bit about all of us, Mike & the Non-Mechanics…
